Choctaw County 12's get two wins in loser's bracket

The Choctaw County 12-year-old All Stars bounced back from a tough Thursday to have an excellent Saturday at the Dizzy Dean South State Tournament at McKee Park in Starkville.

After suffering defeats of 11-5 to Caledonia and 10-9 to Houston on Thursday, Choctaw County was able to knock off Louisville 13-4 and West Point 17-5 on Saturday.

Choctaw County totaled 30 runs n Saturday when it could only muster 14 on Thursday.

The day off on Friday due to the tournament being washed out seemed to benefit Choctaw County greatly.

Choctaw County didn't waste any time getting off to a good start against Louisville by putting up a five-spot in the first inning. It added four runs in the third and four more in the fourth.

Wesley Vowell led the Choctaw County hitting attack against Lousville and was a triple short of the cycle with a home run, double and single. Luke Beard contribute­d a pair of single to the effort.

In the game against West Point, Choctaw County got off to another fast start with six runs in the first inning.

The All-Stars from the Ackerman area kept scoring with five runs in the second, three in the third and three more in the fourth. West Point got one run in the third and four more in the fourth, but it was not nearly enough.

Vowell was once again the top hitter for Choctaw County with three singles.

Choctaw County continues to try and fight its way through the loser's bracket today with a 3:30 p.m. game against Newton County.
