Starkville 8-year-old Brennan Templeton had a knack of getting on base for the TNT Fury, a travel baseball team based out of Grenada.

Once he reached base, the chances were pretty good Templeton was going to score for the Fury.

Templeton was one of the instrumental pieces that helped the Fury win the Grand Slam World Series Section 3 in Panama City Beach, Florida, recently.

“We picked him up in January,” Fury assistant coach Matt Housel said. “He was a good pick up for us. I’m glad he came to play with us.”

As the No. 3 hitter in the lineup for the Fury, Templeton went 13-for-21 in the World Series with two RBI and 11 runs scored.

Templeton had a .598 batting average for the entire season with 79 hits, 56 RBI and 75 runs scored.

With that production, Templetoan was chosen by the Grand Slam league to play in the All-Star Tournament Saturday in Kosciusko. “He respects adults and is an overall good kid with a good attitude,” Housel said of Templeton. “He’s fun to be around and fun to coach. All of the kids on the team like him. He comes from good parents.”

The Fury finished the season with a 5411 overall record on the way to the World Series championship. The bracket included two other teams from Mississippi (Madison and New Albany), two teams from Arkansas, two teams from Texas and one from Arkansas.

Templeton said he was “excited and amazed” that he even got to experience the World Series and play against teams he had never even seen before.

The Fury lost the first championship game and Templeton admitted being a little concerned at that point, but was happy to see everyone rally around each other to get the job done.

“It was so fun playing baseball with my friends, but I got scared when we lost our first championship game that we were going to lose the whole thing,” Templeton said. “This is something I will never ever forget for my entire life.”
