Doobie Brothers to play in UMMC benefit concert
The Doobie Brothers will play at a Sept.14 concert to benefit Alzheimer’s research and patient care in Jackson, and tickets go on sale for the performance at 10 a.m. Friday.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Thalia Mara Hall. The performance will raise money for the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s Memory Impairment and Neurodegenerative Dementia Research (MIND) Center. Ticket prices for the concert range from $49.50 to $119.50 and can be purchased on the Ardenland entertainment company’s website.
The MIND center conducts research in identifying risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of cognitive decline.
Since their first album in 1971, the Doobie Brothers have sold more than 48 million records, and have 16 Top 40 hits, including “Black Water,” “What a Fool Believes” and “Takin’ It to the Streets.”
In 2016 a MIND Center concert featuring Brian Wilson raised over $425,000 for the center’s research on neurodegenerative dementia research.
“This concert is the sixth in a series of unique and successful events which have raised awareness and funds for the MIND Center,” chair of the MIND Center Events Committee Patricia McClure said. “As a Mississippian and a family member of someone who battled this terrible disease, I am proud to know that Mississippi is a national leader in Alzheimer’s research and clinical care.”
