Interleague Mariners 3, Mets 2

-

DETROIT — Jose Iglesias hit two RBI doubles, Matt Boyd pitched into the seventh inning and the Detroit Tigers beat the Houston Astros 5-3 on Saturday night.

Iglesias' second run-scoring double tied the game at 3 in the seventh. Ian Kinsler then flared a single to center to give Detroit the lead.

Kinsler followed up the single with a spectacular defensive play, racing down the right-field line and leaning into the stands to catch Josh Reddick's pop fly.

Victor Martinez made it 5-3 with an RBI single in the eighth. Boyd (5-5) allowed three runs on eight hits in 7 1/3 innings. He struck out five without walking a batter. Justin Wilson, the subject of trade rumors, pitched the ninth for his 13th save.

Making his second start of the season, Collin McHugh dominated the Tigers, allowing one run on four hits in six innings. He struck out seven.

Francis Martes (3-1) took the loss after relieving McHugh in the seventh. He was lifted after Iglesias' game-tying double and was charged with three runs on two hits.

Evan Gattis gave the Astros a 2-0 lead with a long homer to left in the first inning. Derek Fisher drove home Houston's third run with a triple in the fourth, but Boyd struck out the next two batters to avoid further damage.

Iglesias's RBI double in the fifth got the Tigers on the board. Boyd took a line drive from Gattis off his shin in the sixth but induced a double-play grounder from Carlos Beltran.

Yankees 5, Rays 4

NEW YORK — Brett Gardner hit a tiebreaking single in the ninth inning, and the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays for their sixth straight victory.

Chase Headley started the New York ninth with a leadoff walk against Brad Boxberger (2-3). Pinch-runner Jacoby Ellsbury stole second and Todd Frazier was hit by a pitch. After Ronald Torreyes' single loaded the bases, Boxberger was replaced by Dan Jennings.

Gardner, who homered in the 11th inning to give the Yankees a 6-5 victory on Thursday, then singled up the middle for his second game-winning hit of the series.

Headley and Gary Sanchez homered for AL East-leading New York. Aroldis Chapman (4-1) worked the ninth for the win.

Lucas Duda, Peter Bourjos and Steven Souza Jr. connected for Tampa Bay. Duda, who was acquired in a trade with the New York Mets on Thursday, also had a sacrifice fly.

Angels 6, Blue Jays 5

TORONTO — Cliff Pennington hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in Los Angeles' three-run ninth inning, helping the Angels rally for the win.

Ben Revere hit an RBI double off Roberto Osuna (3-1) and advanced to third when pinch-runner Kaleb Cowart scored on a wild pitch. Revere then scampered home on Pennington's fly ball to shallow center.

Los Angeles won for the 13th time in its past 17 games at Rogers Centre.

Troy Scribner (1-0) worked three innings to earn the win in his major league debut and Bud Norris got three outs for his 16th save.

SEATTLE — One timely hit by Seattle's Jarrod Dyson, combined with a defensive lapse by the New York Mets, was enough to end Jacob deGrom's winning streak.

Yovani Gallardo took a shutout into the sixth inning, Dyson delivered a key two-run single and the Mariners beat the Mets, ending deGrom's eight-start winning streak.

Gallardo (5-7), banished to the bullpen in mid-June, allowed one run and five hits in 5 2/3 innings in his second outing since returning to the rotation. He struck out two and walked two, flashing back to the form when he won 72 games over five seasons with Milwaukee.

Edwin Diaz pitched the ninth for his 19th save, despite allowing an RBI single by Michael Conforto.

DeGrom (12-4), bidding to become the first Mets pitcher to win nine consecutive starts in a single season, allowed three runs and five hits in six innings while throwing 109 pitches. He struck out 10 and walked one in his first loss since June 6, when he gave up eight runs and 10 hits in four innings of a 10-8 defeat against Texas.

De Grom gave up a bases-loaded single to Dyson in the second and an unearned run in the third.

Dyson's bases-loaded single capped a wild second inning. Nelson Cruz scorched a single that glanced off deGroom's foot and caromed into right field. Kyle Seager followed with a double to right-center. After Danny Valencia struck out, Mitch Haniger was hit in the face by a 95 mph fastball from deGrom. Haniger left the field under his own power with what the Mariners later announced as a mouth contusion.

Guillermo Heredia ran for Haniger to load the bases. Dyson then blooped a singled into shallow right center. DeGrom escaped by striking out Mike Zunino and Jean Segura.

A two-base throwing error by second baseman Neil Walker led to the unearned run in the third. Ben Gamel singled to open, extending his hitting streak to 15 games. Robinson Cano bounced to Walker, whose throw to force Gamel at second sailed into left field. Gamel continued to third and Cano to second. Gamel scored on Cruz's sacrifice fly to left. Left fielder Michael Conforto prevented at least one more run with a sensational, fully extended, diving grab going back on Seager's drive into the gap in left-center for the second out.

The Mets capitalized on wildness by reliever Tony Zych to pull to 3-1 in the sixth. Gallardo exited after consecutive twoout singles by Yoenis Cespedes and Walker. Zych walked Curtis Granderson on four pitches and then walked Wilmer Flores to force in a run. Jose Reyes flied to center to leave the bases loaded.
