The Around Town calendar is a free service offered by the Starkville Daily News. The calendar runs daily as space allows. ◆ On the Grill at Parker-McGill — Parker-McGill Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will host a weekly “On the Grill” every Saturday. Free food will be provided and visitors can meet the Parker-McGill staff

◆ Moving Forward — Youth Ages 8 to 18. Activities to promote a healthy lifestyle: complete 2 sessions there will be a celebration. Meetings will be Sep. 9 and 6 at the J L King Center. Kayla Pratt will be the Facilitator

◆ Starkville Symphony Performance — The Starkville Symphony's first concert of the season is scheduled for Sept 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Lee Hall on the MSU campus. The program will include pieces by Handel, Neruda, Walters, and Dvorak. The Symphony's concerts are free and open to the public

◆ Neighborhood Yard Sale — Plantation Homes will host a neighborhood wide yard sale on Sep. 16 from 9 am- 2 pm. All houses in Plantation Homes are invited to participate by selling their items in their own yard

◆ Canoe Day — Canoeing on Noxubee Refuge's Bluff Lake will be held on Sep. 16 from 9 am until 3 pm. Canoes, kayaks, life jackets, and paddles will be available free of charge. Call 323-5548 for more information

◆ Annual Punt, Pass, & Kick Contest — The contest is is the morning of Sept. 23 at East Webster High School football field. Girls and boys aged 6 through 15 (before 12/31/17) are eligible.
