Undercover agent begins fall Books and Authors series
The fall lineup is set for the Friends of the Starkville Library’s upcoming Books and Authors events, and the series will kick off Thursday at 11:30 a.m. with Mississippi author Charlie Spillers.
Refreshments will be served at the Starkville Public Library during the free event and Spillers will discuss his book “Confessions of an Undercover Agent: Adventures, Close Calls, and the Toll of a Double Life.”
Spillers’ book is a memoir of his career, from working at the Baton Rouge Police Department to the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and later as a federal prosecutor.
“Confessions of an Undercover Agent” was recognized by Amazon as the No. 1 New Release nationwide of law enforcement memoirs and biographies after its release in 2016. It has also been on the Clarion Ledger’s weekly Top 10 BestSelling Books in Mississippi list and was nominated by the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters for the 2016 award for Best Nonfiction Book.
“We are very excited about hosting Charlie Spillers at the first fall Books and Authors event,” Friends of the Library president Sue Minchew said. “He is an outstanding individual who has led an interesting life which he has captured in his fascinating book.”
The next Books and Authors event is scheduled for Oct. 12. It will feature John Marszalek, who will discuss “The Personal Memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant: the Complete Annotated Edition.”
