WOLVERINES

-

the Wolverine football team in a dominating 28-8 victory.

"I felt really good about how we responded this week after coming up short in last week's game," East Webster Coach Ron Price said. "Our defense was amazing and only gave up one big play. Other than that, we dominated on defense and only giving one big play is something I can live with."

The first quarter went nearly scoreless until Wolverine quarterback Charlie Brand de-

1:29 remaining in the opening period and the Wolverines took this lead to the next quarter.

In the second quarter, East Webster added another score as running back Jhitwan Rogers got to the end zone from 3 yards out to put the Wolverines up 14-0 with 9:28 remaining in the first half. With 55 seconds remaining in the half Brand launched his second touchdown pass of the night to receiver Keevon Patterson from 55 yards out to give East Webster a 21-0 lead going into the locker room.

"It felt really good to get a win with the team (Friday night) and the stats may look good, but I didn't really have a great game," Brand said. "I missed a couple of reads and made some bad throws, but my teammates pulling together with me made it all possible to get this victory. Going forward, we need to play well next week and then prepare for Eupora to start district play the following week."

In the third quarter, East Webster got down to the 1-yard line, but failed to score as the fourth down pass was dropped in the end zone. With 1:36 remaining in the period, Strayhorn quarterback Gavin Luker found receiver Cameron Crump for a 91-yard touchdown and the surprise two-point conversion was good with Crump plowing to the end zone to make the score 21-8 for the remainder of the period.

In the final quarter, Brand turned on the jets and ran the football in to score from 23 yards out with 11:02 remaining in the game,

extending the Wolverine lead to 28-8. East Webster's defense held tough throughout the remainder of play and the Wolverines walked away with a dominant victory.

"For this defense to step up like this was amazing," East Webster defensive coordinator Jason Smith said. "We had five starters out (Friday night) so it feels awesome to know that our younger players are able to step up like they did."

The Wolverines (4-1) will travel next week to North Carrollton to take on the J.Z. George Jaguars.
