MABEN – In the midst of a 10-game winning streak, the East Webster Lady Wolverines had an off night earlier this week when they lost to Hamilton.

The loss could end up being the difference in who wins the district, but for now, it’s up to the Lady Wolverines to take care of their own business. They did that emphatically on Thursday.

Behind four home runs from the offense, East Webster blew past Calhoun City 11-3 and moved to 7-1 in district play with a week to go.

“I’ll give Hamilton a lot of credit the other night,” Lady Wolverine coach Lee Berryhill said. “We didn’t play our normal game, either. (Thursday night) we bounced back and played a lot better. It leaves us on a positive note and now we just have to carry that further.”

Jessica Davis led the way for East Webster with her two homers driving in six runs and going 3-for-4 with a double. Mari-Todd Brown and Sydney Dewberry added homers with three and two hits respectively.

The Lady Wolverines were relentless at the plate and answered every challenge that the Lady Wildcats threw their way. In the bottom of the first, Davis blasted a homer to give the team a 2-0 lead. When Calhoun City tied it up in the second, East Webster got the two-run shot from Dewberry and Curtlyn Blake had a two-out RBI to take the 5-2 lead.

Calhoun City got a run back in the third, but East Webster took over from there.

The Lady Wolverines got Brown’s home run in the bottom of the third, added three more in the fourth and Davis capped the game with her second home run in the sixth for the final.

East Webster also played a sharp defensive game as it tried to clean everything up before playoffs begin. College Football SEC Standings
