EMCC defeats Delta 45-7 on road

MOORHEAD – Tyrell Price scored a pair of first-half touchdowns on the ground and the No. 1 East Mississipp­i Community College Lions earned an easy 45-7 victory on the road Thursday night.

EMCC improved its record to 5-0.

After Price opened the scoring with a 5-yard run at the 12:26 mark of the first quarter, the Lions hit a big play with 8:57 remaining in the initial quarter with a 71-yard touchdown pass from Lindsey Scott, Jr. to Mike Williams.

Scott hooked up with Kurt Merritt on an 11-yard pass for the third score of the game for EMCC with 1:59 left in the first quarter to extend the margin to 21-0.

Price broke a 70-yard touchdown run with 11:32 in the second quarter and the Lions held the lead at halftime 28-0.

It was the only touchdown of the second quarter, but EMCC had a 30-yard field goal for its 31st point of the game.

In the third quarter, Scott scored on a 33-yard run with 7:20 remaining for the Lions and that provided enough difference for the running clock to start at 38-0.

Delta closed the gap to 38-7 with 13:38 left in the game on a 5-yard touchdown run by John-Derrick Smith, but EMCC reestablis­hed its 38-point cushion with a 1-yard scoring run by Justin Conner at the 7:40 mark.

Scott finished the game by completing 25-of-35 pass attempts for 310 yards and his two touchdowns, while Price rushed eight times for 104 yards and two scores.
