Armstrong 7th graders score late touchdown to begin home sweep

Micah Myles has progressed enough this season to become a difference maker for the Armstrong 7th grade football team.

Myles scored two touchdowns, including the deciding score at the end, as Armstrong defeated Louisville 16-8 to begin a sweep of three games at Yellowjacket Stadium.

“If you see the first day to now, you could see the difference,” Armstrong 7th grade coach Marlo Fair said of Myles.

As the game was coming down to crunch time, Armstrong quarterback Jaylon York dropped back to toss the touchdown pass to Myles, who was covered well.

“Our quarterback is cool with everyone around him,” Fair said about York’s presence in the pocket.

Fair also said the offensive line was “the tone-setter for us.” The Armstrong 7th graders have been a work in progress since early in the season and the weather kept the team from preparing like it wanted.

Despite the adversity, Fair has been pleased with the progress from then until now.

“It’s been like night and day,” Fair said. “Most importantly, they are good kids, good students and are very coachable. You can coach them. They take the coaching, go out on the field and get through it. It’s a great group and we’ve got something to look forward to.”

Fair also gave credit to his coaching staff of Kenny Fair, Tony Minor and James Holloway.

9th Grade Game Armstrong 16, Louisville 8

The Armstrong 8th grade Yellowjackets rallied from a deficit to beat Louisville by the same score as their 7th grade predecessors.

After a scoreless first quarter, Louisville took an 8-0 lead with a touchdown run and two-point conversion with 5:10 remaining in the second quarter.

Louisville ended up leaving too much time on the clock for Armstrong as the Jackets drove all of the way down the field and scored the tying touchdown on an 3-yard run by Jayden Inge with 8 seconds left in the first half.

The two teams battled through a scoreless third quarter, but Armstrong hit the big play in the fourth quarter when quarterback Jaquez Harris threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Jarius Jordan. Inge ran in the two-point conversion to cap the scoring.

Starkville completed the sweep with an 18-0 victory in the 9th grade game.
