The Around Town calendar is a free service offered by the Starkville Daily News. The calendars runs daily as space allows. Announcements should be submitted via e-mail to life@starkvilledailynews.com by 2 p.m. the day prior to publication and be no more than 50 words in length. Religious events will be listed Saturdays on the Faith page. Recurring events will run on Sundays only. One-time events will run Monday through Friday.

◆ Unity Park Nominations — The Unity Park Advisory Committee will accept nominations for its 2018 honorees who have contributed to civil rights in Oktibbeha County from Oct. 1 to Nov. 15. Honorees will be announced in a ceremony at the Unity Park on Jan. 15. Submit nominations online at starkvilleunitypark@yahoo.com or in writing at 108 Grand Ridge Road, Starkville

◆ Donations for Homeless Students — Starkville Oktibbeha School District's Project HELP is seeking donations of hygiene supplies, school supplies, school uniforms (new or used in good condition), socks and undergarments for homeless students. ◆ Rotary — The Starkville Rotary Club meets at 11:45 a.m. at the Starkville Country Club

◆ Respite Care — Emerson family center will host free childcare for families for ages 8 weeks to 5 years while parents attend Doctor's Appointments, Adult Education Classes, Grocery Shopping, Job Interviews etc. Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to noon

◆ Adult Education Classes — Ages 16 and Older, Earn your High School Equivalency, Monday-Thursday from 8:00 a.m. noon at the J.L. King Center. Tempe O' Nan will be the Instructor at JL King and Laura Thurmond and Jean Ann Foxworth will be the Instructor for Emerson

◆ Work Keys Info Session and Practice — Ages 16 and Older, Key to Finding Gainful Employment on Monday-Thursday from 8:00 a.m.-noon at the J.L. King Center. Shakila Seals will be the Instructor

◆ Afterschool Clubs — Art, Fitness, Life Skills, Homework Help, Literacy clubs will meet Monday- Thursday from 3:30 p.m.5:30 p.m. at the J.L. King Center. Kayla Pratt will be the Instructor

◆ Civitan — The Starkville Civitan Club will meet Oct. 2 at noon at Blue22. The program will feature officer installation for 2017-2018

◆ FOL Monthly Book Sale — The Starkville Public Library's Friends of the Library monthly book sale will be Oct. 2 from Noon-6:00pm. Featured specials include: all “Anytime Room” books on sale for $0.25. Fiction and nonfiction books in hard cover and paperback, children's books, vintage books, and reference are all available at nominal prices, with most priced $0.50 to $3

◆ Fall Revival — The Light Outreach of Holiness Temple, 104 Watson Rd., will be in our fall revival Oct. 2 through Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. nightly. ◆ Casserole Kitchen — The First Presbyterian Church a casserole kitchen every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

◆ Kiwanis — The Kiwanis Club will meet Oct. 3 at noon at the Hilton Garden Inn. We will hold our New Year Kickoff with Club Business. Guests are welcome

◆ Emerson Events — Emerson Family School is hosting events Monday through Thursday. These events include Adult Education Classes Online and Face To Face, Work Keys Info Session and Practice and Afterschool Clubs. Details are listed under “Monday”

◆ Toastmasters — Toastmasters meets every Tuesday from 6-7:00 pm in the Conference Room on the first floor of the Sportsplex. Toastmasters is a club that helps members improve their public speaking and leadership skills in a positive atmosphere. Come join us

◆ Childbirth Classes — Emerson Family Resource Center offers free childbirth classes in October. On Oct. 3 Nadia McClelland, La Leche League Leader, will discuss Parent/Infant Bonding and Breastfeeding. Call Emerson (662-320-4607) to register. Free childcare and snacks provided. ◆ Celebrity Wait Night — Starkville Lion's Club's Celebrity Wait Night will be Oct. 3 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Grill. The Starkville Lion's Club is a nonprofit that impacts people with hearing and visual impairments. We would appreciate your support by eating at the Grill this night, making donations, and enjoying good wholesome fun

◆ Jazz at Renasant — On Oct. 10th at 6 p.m. the Starkville/MSU Symphony will have an outdoor concert at The RENASANT BANK plaza (Lampkin and Montgomery Streets in Starkville). This is always a fun evening for the whole family and is called JAZZ AT RENASANT. Please join us for this free concert

◆ Emerson Community Story Time — Preschoolers are invited to Emerson Family School every week from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. There will be an activity after reading children will receive free books. Faye Parker and Evan Carter McClelland will be the Facilitators

◆ Green Thumb Garden Club — The club will meet at Cadence Bank at 2 p.m. The program will be given by Dr. Victor L. Maddox

◆ Archaeology Month at the Library — MSU archaeology professor Evan Peacock will present “Why Archaeology Matters — And What You Can Do To Help” on Oct. 4 at the Starkville Public Library. The talk will be begin at 4 p.m. and will feature Mississippi archaeological artifacts, maps and tools

◆ 6th Annual Starkville Community Day — The Community Day will take place Oct. 6 and 7 at J.L. King Memorial Park. Oct. 6 will feature a community meet and greet, vendor set-up, and a block party with DJ Silk

◆ Alcoholics Anonymous — Alcoholics Anonymous will now meet every Saturday at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church

◆ Casserole Kitchen — The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection hosts a casserole kitchen every Saturday at Parish hall at 11:30 a.m.

◆ On the Grill at Parker-McGill — Parker-McGill Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will host a weekly “On the Grill” every Saturday. Free food will be provided and visitors can meet the Parker-McGill staff

◆ 6th Annual Starkville Community Day — The Community Day will take place Oct. 6 and 7 at J.L. King Memorial Park. On Oct. 7 there will be a variety of events, from an 8 a.m. 5K Health Walk, a health fair, games, line dancing, open mic, gospel music, and live entertainment

◆ Rummage Sale — The Pilot Club of Starkville is having a Rummage Sale on Oct. 7th from 7:00 a.m. to noon at the Needmore Center. ◆ 2017 Art in the Park — The 3rd annual children's art festival will be presented by the Starkville Area Arts Council on Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at McKee Park.
