SHOCKWAVE

-

thought it would be a good time to get into coaching.

“It kind of got me back in the game,” Mock said.

Evan Sabanadzovic, who had a successful first meet with several medals around his neck, has already benefited from Mock’s coaching.

“She’s really good and has helped me a lot,” Sabanadzovic

said. “She’s helped me improve my technique in all my strokes. She told me to change some things.”

Along with Evan Sabanadzovic, his sister Ella Sabanadzovic, Lillie Mock, Joshua Bowman, Kate Nobles, Breih Magbanua and Silas Walker won medals or ribbons at the first meet.

The Shockwave will be busy in the next few weeks with meets in

Birmingham, Memphis, Tupelo and the state meet will be in Biloxi.

Mock said competition will be good for her young squad and she looks forward to working with them.

“They are very impressionable,” Mock said. “We like to teach them more than swimming here. We are very focused on learning life skills.

Not every kid is going to make it to the college level, so what else can we teach them while they are here. Swimming is not an easy sport and they learn some discipline. You have to be very committed. Even though a lot of the kids won’t go past high school level, we hope some of the lessons they learn will prepare them for life.”
