PATRIOTS

-

Both the Vols and the Patriots bring 7-1 overall marks into the 7 p.m. matchup.

Heritage opened the season with three-straight victories over Kirk Academy 4620, Manchester Academy 3-0 and Wayne Academy 42-16.

After suffering their only

loss of the season to Lamar School 27-3, the Patriots have started rolling once again with wins over Pillow Academy 42-38, Magnolia Heights 31-18, Leake Academy 35-31 and Winston Academy 28-7.

“They’ve gotten better every week it seems like,” Nicholson said. “Coach Harrison does a good job with those

guys. He has a lot of weapons and good players.”

One of those weapons is senior running back Dontae Gray. Heritage Academy tries to get him involved in the offense as much as possible.

“We go to him as much as we can,” Harrison said.

The Patriots have a sophomore quarterback in Carter

Putt. Other leaders are junior free safety Moak Griffin and junior cornerback Lex Rogers, who has had five interceptions in the last two weeks.

“We are young and inexperienced group, but they’ve grown up really fast,” Harrison said. “I’ve been really proud of them and they are a fun group to coach.”
