East Webster softball advances

MYRTLE – Whether at home or on the road, East Webster just keeps winning on the softball diamond.

The Lady Wolverines went to the road for their second-straight road series in the playoffs taking on Myrtle on Saturday. The series went to three games but saw the Lady Wolverines come away victorious and push themselves into Tuesday's North State Championsh­ip series.

East Webster punched its ticket thanks to a 9-4 gamethree win. After trailing 1-0 in that decisive game in the third inning, Jessica Davis launched her second of two home runs for the day and led a four-run inning that gave them the 4-1 lead.

Four more runs followed in the fifth inning to blow it open with an 8-3 lead and they held on for the win.

The day started with the Lady Wolverines getting off on the right foot. They took a 3-0 lead in the first with Davis' two-run home run and an RBI from Sydney Dewberry. They were up 7-1 by the third inning but Myrtle fought back to tie it at 7.

Seniors Mari-Todd Brown and Davis gave them the lead back for good in the sixth with RBI and East Webster added one more in the seventh to win 10-7.

In game two, the Lady Wolverines lost their first playoff game so far when Myrtle edged them 5-3. Coy Jennings had two RBI to lead the way in that ball game.

The Lady Wolverines now advance to the North State title series on Tuesday afternoon to be played at Hamilton.
