Mississippi State University has a variety of homecoming festivities planned before Saturday’s Homecoming game against the University of Kentucky at Davis Wade Stadium.

“Under the Big Top: Maroon and White Edition” is this year’s theme.

“The significance of homecoming is just a time to have alumni and students be able to come together and celebrate everything that is Mississippi State,” said Mayah Emerson, director of programming for student affairs.

Emerson said the university intends to celebrate the traditions of MSU while incorporating new things this year, such as their first homecoming king. Anthony C. Daniels, of Brookhaven, made history by winning homecoming king.

Daniels, homecoming queen Victoria V. Vivians, and MSU President Mark E. Keenum attended “Pancakes on the Plaza” at Union Plaza on Monday.

A Kick-Off Party will also be hosted at the Union Plaza from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Tuesday, members from MTV’s “Wild ‘N Out” will host a comedy show in Bettersworth Auditorium at 7 p.m.

“Spider-Man Homecoming” will be shown Wednesday at 7 p.m. on the Drill Field with free popcorn and popsicles.

“We also will feature a carnival this year for students. That’s new,” said Emerson.

The homecoming carnival will be hosted at 2 p.m. in the Newell-Grissom parking lot on Thursday.

“True Maroon Friday” is an event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Drill Field. T-shirts, phone wallets, cups, and more will be given away. Supporters will also be able to sign homecoming banners for the Colvard Student Union.

The campus’ National Panhellenic Council is set to host a “#StompFest2017” step-show on Friday at Humphrey Coliseum from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. General admission is $10, and $5 if a valid MSU student ID is presented.

MSU concludes homecoming week with a football game against the University of Kentucky at 3 p.m. During halftime, the homecoming court will be presented as well as the king and queen.
