Noah Smith is living the dream. The senior linebacker and offensive back at Starkville Academy is glad to have football as a part of his life.

“I'm thankful for it and grateful for it,” Smith said “It's an amazing opportunity to be able to play football and have such a brotherhood with everybody. There's really nothing better to do than play football. After school, you get to practice and you have the games on Friday night. It's the thing to do and it's fun.”

It's a big night for the Volunteers as 14 seniors will be recognized at the final regular season game and the District 2-AAA championship is also on the line against Leake Academy. Kickoff at J.E. Logan Field is set for 7 p.m.

Starkville Academy will be going for its third district title in four years and head coach Chase Nicholson said the senior class has been a huge part of that success.

“Some of them are new faces and some of them just came back out,” Nicholson said of the seniors. “You are looking at a good mix of different guys who in the past three years have done a lot for this program whether it was sophomores learning under the guys before them or juniors learning how to play the game as starters and have gotten into the mix. Now they are seniors in leadership roles. They have gone above and beyond. 7 p.m., WLZA-FM 96.1
