The Around Town calendar is a free service offered by the Starkville Daily News. The calendars runs daily as space allows. Announcements should be submitted via e-mail to life@starkvilledailynews.com by 2 p.m. the day prior to publication and be no more than 50 words in length. Religious events will be listed Saturdays on the Faith page. Recurring events will run on Sundays only. One-time events will run Monday through Friday.

◆ Unity Park Nominations — The Unity Park Advisory Committee will accept nominations for 2018 honorees who have contributed to civil rights in Oktibbeha County from Oct. 1 - Nov. 15. ◆ Donations for Homeless Students — Starkville Oktibbeha School District's Project HELP is seeking donations of hygiene supplies, school supplies, school uniforms (new or used in good condition), socks and undergarments for homeless students. ◆ Blood Drive — A blood drive facilitated by United Blood Services will take place on Oct. 29 in the parking lot of Trinity Presbyterian Church, 607 Hospital Rd. from 8:45a.m. to noon. ◆ J.L. King Instrument Ribbon Cutting — The Pilot Club of Starkville will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at J. L. King Memorial Park for new playground instruments Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. The free event is open to the public and will include a demonstration of the instruments by MSU's Dr. Bob Damm and a Brain Minders Puppet Show
