Man dies in two-vehicle crash in Lowndes County
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) - A man is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Lowndes County Sunday night.
Just before 8:30 p.m., Mississippi Highway Patrol was dispatched to a fatal crash on MS 12 at Cal-Steens Road.
A 1996 Ford Ranger driven by Larry Welch Jr., 41, of Vernon, Ala., was traveling west bound when an east bound 1998 Honda Accord driven by Campranella Prowell, 25, of Caledonia, attempted to turn left onto Cal-Steens Rd. in front of the pickup. The Ranger collided with the Accord in the west bound lane.
Welch died at the scene while Prowell was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital with non life threatening injuries.
This accident remains under investigation by MHP.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans and Democrats bickered heatedly Monday over whether the GOP tax bill truly helps the middle class, as the Ways and Means Committee kicked off a marathon session to amend and vote on the far-reaching legislation President Donald Trump hopes to sign into law by year's end.
Republicans focused on findings by Congress' nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation that the bill would lower taxes across all income levels over the next several years.
"Clearly this is helping real people. It's helping teachers, it's helping students, it's helping struggling families that are living paycheck to paycheck," said GOP Rep. Erik Paulsen of Minnesota.
Democrats returned repeatedly to a section of the analysis showing taxes would actually go up beginning in 2023 for some 38 million taxpayers or families making $20,000 to $40,000 a year.
