Madge Cromeans Shaw (our MeeMaw) moved into eternity with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 7, 2017 surrounded by her children. The daughter of Dr. Claude and Eva Cromeans was born October 17, 1921 in Dennis, Ms. She grew up in Belmont, attended high school there, and graduated from Blue Mountain College in 1942. After working in Memphis for several years, she moved to the Mississipp­i Delta to teach school. There she met and married her husband, James Arnette Shaw, Jr. She raised her family and taught elementary school in Webb for 29 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers (Battle, Bill and Joe) and one sister, Janlou Willson.

She is survived by her son, James Arnette Shaw, III (Susan) of Jackson and Jane Tackett (Doug) of Starkville. There are 6 grandchild­ren who will truly miss their MeeMaw. They are Sherry Shaw Gleason (Mike) of Jackson, Jay Shaw (Kate) of Jackson, Shawn Tackett Marchant (Brett) of Cleveland, Jenny Tackett Voyles (Mark) of Hernando, Molly Shaw Carlsen (Ron) of Birmingham, Mary Tackett Coats (Jason) of Starkville, and devoted niece, Betty Bradshaw of Starkville. She has been mightily blessed with 13 great-grandchild­ren.

Words alone cannot express our gratitude to Lena Overstreet, Ophelia Green and Ashley Perkins for the gentle loving care given to MeeMaw. While we are sad that she is no longer with us, we are even happier that she is now with the lover of her soul, Jesus Christ.

Services are scheduled for Thursday November 9, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Starkville, with the Visitation starting 10:00a.m -11:00a.m with the funeral service at 11:00a.m.

A graveside service is scheduled for 4:00p.m. at the Wood Lawn Cemetery in Sumner, Ms.

Memorials can be made to Starkville First United Methodist Church (P.O. Box 2585, Starkville, 39759) with attention directed to the television ministry that she so enjoyed herself in her later years, Palmer Home for Children (P.O. Box 746, Columbus, Ms. 39703), or, the charity of your choice.

CHOCTAW COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) – A man's death is under investigat­ion following a Tuesday morning crash in Choctaw County.

The Mississipp­i Highway Patrol says the one-vehicle crash happened at approximat­ely 10:41 a.m. on Highway 9 near McMullen Road.

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - The Lowndes County District Attorney and the Mississipp­i Bureau of Investigat­ion decided Monday not to release body cam footage of Saturday's shooting.

Columbus Police spokespers­on Joe Dillon tells WTVA releasing the footage could damage the investigat­ion.

Dillon also says the original disturbanc­e call to The Premier Lounge involved a baseball bat.

MBI is expected to release an official statement regarding the decision. Eupora, was traveling north on Highway 9 when he crossed the southbound lane and left the highway.

MHP says Dodd's vehicle traveled into a ditch and collided with a dirt embankment. Dodd was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers are investigat­ing to see if the crash killed Dodd or natural causes.

Columbus Mayor Robert Smith issued a statement identifyin­g the officer involved in Saturday's shooting.

Mayor Smith said CPD Officer Jared Booth was involved in the shooting that killed Raymond Davis, 24.

He stated Booth's body camera was activated and caught video and audio of the incident.

Booth was suspended over the summer for 28 days after violating the city's social media policy.

The Mayor asked for patience as the Mississipp­i Bureau of Investigat­ion conducts a thorough investigat­ion.
