State scores 90 in annual GSR
Mississippi State’s athletic teams combined for a score of 90 in the annual release of the NCAA’s Graduation Success Rates, representing the school’s highest total since the formula’s inception in 2005.
The 90 percentile is up four points from last year’s previous school-record total of 86, and it is four points better than the national Division I overall average of 86. State’s total ranked fourth among the 14-member Southeastern Conference institutions. The score is a measure of the fouryear cohort from 2007-10.
Five Bulldog programs – men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf and women’s basketball -- earned perfect scores of 100. Four other teams registered scores of 90 or better, including soccer (96), volleyball (93), men’s cross country and track and field (93) and baseball (91).
Eleven Bulldog programs exceeded the GSR national average: baseball, men’s cross country and track and field, football, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball.
A total of 10 MSU programs tied or exceeded their alltime GSR high: women’s basketball, football, men’s and women’s golf, men’s track and field, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, soccer and softball.
The NCAA Graduation Success Rate is designed to show the proportion of student-athletes on any given team who earn a college degree. The report represents data from firsttime freshmen, student-athletes who entered at midyear, and student-athletes who transferred into Mississippi State University between 2007 and 2010, but excludes studentathletes who transfer from the university in good academic standing.
