MSU hosts International Education Week 2017
Mississippi State University’s International Institute and Office of Study Abroad and Center for Student Activities has planned an International Education Week to broaden students’ understanding of various cultures.
The university intends to celebrate learning experiences around the world with a week of free activities for students and faculty. Each day, foods from countries such as Greece, Japan or Morocco will be in the Marketplace at Perry Cafeteria for students to try. Special events will also take place. Monday consists of an art gallery reception showcasing, “Pieces of the World,” photographs taken by MSU travelers. The event will be hosted in the Colvard Student Union at 6 p.m. where the travelers will share their experiences.
Following the exhibit, there will be an African Revival Night in Foster Ballroom U at 7 p.m. MSU’s African Student Association will showcase African culture with dance performances, dishes and a fashion show. Their goal is to “revive the African community in Starkville.”
On Tuesday, pizza and prizes will be open to those in attendance for a Study Abroad Expo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Colvard’s Bill Foster Ballroom U. Information and available options will be provided about studying abroad and recent students who studied abroad will share their experiences.
From 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., the English Language Institute and MSU Globetrotters will host “Conversation Connections” in Colvard Room 330. Representatives from the local community will join faculty and U.S. and international students in discussing cultural events and topics.
A Game Night from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. will be hosted in the Writing Center on campus. Students are encouraged to bring a friend for a fun night of competitive games and food while interacting with individuals of different nationalities.
“A Day in the Life of a Global Citizen” is set for Thursday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in Memorial Hall Coskrey’s Auditorium. International students will share their daily routines in their home countries and compare them to the daily routines of individuals in the U.S.
Lunch will also be served. At 6 p.m. a Latin Lip-sync Battle with prizes and light refreshments will be in Fawlkes Auditorium.
Concluding International Education Week, those who are interested in traveling abroad but do not have a passport, are encouraged to stop by the Passport Informational Booth at the Union Food Court. The International Institute’s Passport Acceptance Agents will be there from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help students submit applications, or learn more about the application process.
