E-Center hosts November Shark Tank
Options abound for student entrepreneurs at Mississippi State University.
Students have access to space at the ECenter, grant money and several other resources for bringing business ideas to life. One opportunity for funding is the monthly shark tank held by the E-Center. After being approved by a board of peers, student entrepreneurs may present to a board for up to $2,500. The concept is based off the popular television show “Shark Tank”
Among the five student companies presenting at the November shark tank was H2grOw, which seeks to design a fish tank mounted aquaponic planter, circulating water from the tank through a gravel planter. The waste from the fish in the aquarium would fertilize the plants. H2grOw was seeking funds to further improve its design.
“We are really interested in pursuing the manufacturing process,” said MSU landscape architecture student Casey Frederick, the founder of H2grOw. “We want to create a polished product, and we're hoping that this will give us the opportunity to do that.”
Frederick said other than issues getting the prototype to work properly, she felt the pitch had gone well.
“I just happened to stumble across the systems, so I decided to pursue the possibility of making it something for other people to have, as well, and I got these guys on board with me.
