The Around Town calendar is a free service offered by the Starkville Daily News. The calendars runs daily as space allows. Announcements should be submitted via e-mail to life@ starkvilledailynews.com by 2 p.m. the day prior to publication and be no more than 50 words in length. Religious events will be listed Saturdays on the Faith page. Recurring events will run on Sundays only. One-time events will run Monday through Friday.

◆ Donations for Homeless Students — Starkville Oktibbeha School District's Project HELP is seeking donations of hygiene supplies, school supplies, school uniforms (new or used in good condition), socks and undergarments for homeless students. ◆ Starkville Tour of Homes — The 2017 Starkville Tour of Homes will be from 1 p.m. -5 p.m. Dec. 3 with an ongoing reception from 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Starkville Public Library. Tickets are for sale for $20 from any Starkville Civic League Member, GDSP or Chris Emplaincourt at 323-0711 or emplaincourt1882@gmail. com. A map of the tour is on each ticket.

◆ Rotary — The Starkville Rotary Club meets at 11:45 a.m. at the Starkville Country Club

◆ Respite Care — Emerson family center will host free childcare for families for ages 8 weeks to 5 years while parents attend Doctor's Appointments, Adult Education Classes, Grocery Shopping, Job Interviews etc. MondayThursday 8 a.m. to noon

◆ Adult Education Classes — Ages 16 and Older, Earn your High School Equivalency, Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. - noon at the J.L. King Center. Tempe O' Nan will be the Instructor at JL King and Laura Thurmond and Jean Ann Foxworth will be the Instructor for Emerson

◆ Work Keys Info Session and Practice — Ages 16 and Older, Key to Finding Gainful Employment on Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Emerson Family School

◆ Afterschool Clubs — Art, Fitness, Life Skills, Homework Help, Literacy clubs will meet Monday- Thursday from 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. at the J.L. King Center

◆ Tutoring — Emerson Family School will host tutoring for students MondayThursday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mississippi State Students will be the facilitators

◆ Protecting the Flock church seminar — There will be a FREE “Protecting The Flock” church security seminar held at First Baptist Church Louisville, MS on Dec. 11 and Dec. 12 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each night. Jimmy Meeks of Sheepdog Safety Training will conduct this seiminar. Jimmy is a 44 year minister, a 35 year police officer based out of Texas. Jimmy will instruct church members and staff on methods of preventing attacks on churches and keeping members safe. The same seminar will be conducted each night to enable people choose which night is best to attend. This seminar is sponsored by the Margaret Lackey State Missions Offering and area churches.
