The Around Town calendar is a free service offered by the Starkville Daily News. The calendars runs daily as space allows. Announcements should be submitted via e-mail to life@ starkvilledailynews.com by 2 p.m. the day prior to publication and be no more than 50 words in length. Religious events will be listed Saturdays on the Faith page. Recurring events will run on Sundays only. One-time events will run Monday through Friday.

◆ Donations for Homeless Students — Starkville Oktibbeha School District’s Project HELP is seeking donations of hygiene supplies, school supplies, school uniforms (new or used in good condition), socks and undergarments for homeless students. ◆ Work Keys Info Session and Practice — Ages 16 and Older, Key to Finding Gainful Employment on Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Emerson Family School
◆ Afterschool Clubs — Art, Fitness, Life Skills, Homework Help, Literacy clubs will meet MondayThursday from 3:30 p.m.5:30 p.m. at the J.L. King Center
◆ Tutoring — Emerson Family School will host tutoring for students MondayThursday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mississippi State Students will be the facilitators
◆ Protecting the Flock church seminar — There will be a FREE “Protecting The Flock” church security seminar held at First Baptist Church Louisville, MS on Dec. 11 and Dec. 12 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each night. Jimmy Meeks of Sheepdog Safety Training will conduct this seiminar. Jimmy is a 44 year minister, a 35 year police officer based out of Texas. Jimmy will instruct church members and staff on methods of preventing attacks on churches and keeping members safe. The same seminar will be conducted each night to enable people choose which night is best to attend. This seminar is sponsored by the Margaret Lackey State Missions Offering and area churches. ◆ Toastmasters — Toastmasters meets every Tuesday from 6-7:00 pm in the Conference Room on the first floor of the Sportsplex. Toastmasters is a club that helps members improve their public speaking and leadership skills in a positive atmosphere. Come join us.

◆Nox◆bee Nature Series — The program will be held Thursday December 7 at 6:30 in the Refuge Visitor Center. Dr. Guiming Wang will report on turkey research at MSU. The public is invited.
◆Shiitake Mushroom growing class — Alcorn State presents a Shiitake Mushroom-growing class 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Dec. 7; participants must bring 5 logs cut 3 days prior with a min. diameter of 4” and a maximum diameter of 6”; to be held at the American Legion Post 3328 Pat Station Rd.
◆Town and Country Garden Club — The Starkville Town and Country Garden Club will meet at 9:30 Dec. 7 at the home of Lynda Forbus.
