EMCC’s Juhan receives honor

SCOOBA – East Mississipp­i Community College sophomore guard Tyeisha Juhan has been selected MACJC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the third time in her career following a pair of standout performanc­e a week ago.

The Jonesboro, Georgia native averaged 25.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 assists during the Lions’ 1-1 week. Juhan also shot 43 percent (19-of-44) from the field and 89 percent (8-of-9) from the free throw line during the pair of outings.

Juhan opened last week with 21 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals against third-ranked Shelton State Community College Monday night in Scooba. She then followed with 30 points, eight rebounds, five steals and three assists during Thursday’s 67-50 win at Snead State CC in Boaz, Alabama.

For the season, Juhan currently ranks third among MACJC scoring leaders at 18.4 points per game following Monday’s 21-point effort at Northwest Mississipp­i. She is also averaging 6.7 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 1.1 assists per contest for the year as a sophomore.

A year ago in making the MACJC All-State first team as a freshman, Juhan ranked ninth nationally with an NJCAA Region 23-best 20.2 points per game. She also averaged 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.9 assists an outing last season as a two-time MACJC Player of the Week.

Head coach Sharon Thompson’s 3-4 EMCC Lions travel to Tuscaloosa on Saturday for a 2 p.m. rematch with the thirdranke­d Lady Bucs of Shelton State. On the men’s side, head coach Billy Begley’s 5-2 EMCC Lions will play host to Baton Rouge CC in a 2 p.m. Region 23 contest at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum on the Scooba campus.
