MSU golfer receivers honor
In the midst of a strong freshman campaign, Mississippi State women’s golf newcomer Aubree Jones was selected to the American Junior Golf Association’s 2017 Rolex Junior AllAmerica second team.
Jones, who has competed in the AJGA since 2012, earned All-America accolades for the second-straight year. Her best finish in an AGJA event came at the 2016 Bubba Conlee National Junior, where she finished second after carding a three-round total of 179. That tally included a 39 in the final round. At the Rolex Girls Junior Championship, Jones tied for 36th in the 78-player field behind a four-round tally of 300.
“It is a huge honor to be named to the Junior Rolex AllAmerica team for the second year, Jones said. “It’s always been one of my goals since I first started competitive tournaments, and for it to happen just helps to prove how hard work can pay off.”
During the fall portion of the Mississippi State golf season, Jones finished in the Top 25 in three of the four tournaments played and tied for 26th in the fourth. During her freshman debut at the Ocean Course Invite, she added her name to the Mississippi State record book with the second-lowest round played, a 66, in the second round. She went on to tie for third in the event.
The American Junior Golf Association introduced the first recipients of the Rolex Junior All-America Teams in 1978 and have since recognized players who have proven to be the world’s premier junior golfers annually.
This year’s Rolex Junior All-America Teams are comprised of 96 junior golfers ages 13-19, from 20 states and 13 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, South Korea and Thailand. These young men and women distinguished themselves through their outstanding play in 132 national junior golf events, 120 of which were conducted by the AJGA. The teams were determined exclusively through the Rolex AJGA Rankings in October.
Jones looks to finish out the strong freshman season in the spring as MSU resumes play.
