After falling behind 9-3 early against Nanih Waiya and exploding on the Warriors, East Webster decided to do that out of the gates to French Camp. A bevy of fast break buckets had the Wolverines quickly in front 15-0 with 2 minutes gone in the game. By the end of the quarter, the lead had ballooned to 33-12 and East Webster was running its offense like a well-oiled machine.
“Our offense is so connected to our defense,” Seger said. “If you have to double Issac, pick your poison because we have so many guys that can knock down shots. It was fun to watch.”
The Wolverines led 60-18 at the halftime break and cruised to victory to start the season 5-2.
It was a successful first night of games as Lafayette High School and Kirk Academy played girls and boys games before the East Webster/French Camp showdowns. Both teams will be back in action tonight against different competition.
For the second game in a row, the Lady Wolverines held their opponents to under 20 points.
It took Nanih Waiya three quarters before it scored their first basket of the game on Tuesday and French Camp was having the same problems against East Webster’s vaunted full court press.
“Alexis and Mikeria (Clark) were boosts in the press after missing last year with knee injuries,” Seger said. “They’re starting to figure out what we want to do and playing really are. We have to to generate some points.”
The Lady Wolverines had over 20 steals in the game led by Alexis Bell’s eight thefts and they jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter. It wasn’t until 3:10 was left in the first half when Lady Panthers scored their first points and they trailed 44-2 at the break.
Bell led the team in points with 12 for the evening and Mari Todd Brown was also in double digits with 10 points as 12 different players got in the scoring column to move the team to .500 at 4-4.
