SA teams get basketball wins

COLUMBUS – The Starkville Academy Volunteers followed up a successful night of basketball at Kemper Academy with another good day Friday at the Heritage Academy Shootout.

After the Lady Vols handled Columbus Christian 55-15, the SA boys also were victorious against the Rams 61-39.

The Vols (3-2) trailed after the first quarter 14-12, but outscored Columbus Christian 19-4 in the second quarter to take control of the game.

Tyler had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Noah Methvin added 14 points.

In the 62-25 decision over Kemper Academy, Taylor had 20 points for the Vols, while Kyle Faver added 12 points and Richardson put in 10 points.

The SA girls also got off to a slow start against Columbus Christian, but still held a 9-6 advantage after one quarter. The Lady Vols overwhelme­d the Lady Rams 21-0 in the second quarter.

Mari Laci Archer, Mary Peyton Passons and Lillee Alpe had 11 points each for Starkville Academy, which improved College Football AP Top 25
