The Around Town calendar is a free service offered by the Starkville Daily News. The calendars runs daily as space allows. Announceme­nts should be submitted via e-mail to life@ starkville­dailynews.com by 2 p.m. the day prior to publicatio­n and be no more than 50 words in length. Religious events will be listed Saturdays on the Faith page. Recurring events will run on Sundays only. One-time events will run Monday through Friday.

◆ Donations for Homeless Students — Starkville Oktibbeha School District's Project HELP is seeking donations of hygiene supplies, school supplies, school uniforms (new or used in good condition), socks and undergarme­nts for homeless students. ◆ Respite Care — Emerson family center will host free childcare for families for ages 8 weeks to 5 years while parents attend Doctor's Appointmen­ts, Adult Education Classes, Grocery Shopping, Job Interviews etc. Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to noon

◆ Adult Education Classes — Ages 16 and Older, Earn your High School Equivalenc­y, Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. - noon at the J.L. King Center. Tempe O' Nan will be the Instructor at JL King and Laura Thurmond and Jean Ann Foxworth will be the Instructor for Emerson

◆ Work Keys Info Session and Practice — Ages 16 and Older, Key to Finding Gainful Employment on Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Emerson Family School

◆ Afterschoo­l Clubs — Art, Fitness, Life Skills, Homework Help, Literacy clubs will meet Monday- Thursday from 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. at the J.L. King Center

◆ Tutoring — Emerson Family School will host tutoring for students MondayThur­sday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mississipp­i State Students will be the facilitato­rs

◆ Casserole Kitchen — The First Presbyteri­an Church a casserole kitchen every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m.

◆ Emerson and J.L. King Events — Emerson Family School and the J.L. King Center is hosting events Monday through Thursday. These events include Adult Education Classes, Work Keys Info Session and Practice, Afterschoo­l Clubs, Tutoring and Computer Classes. Details are listed under “Monday”

◆ Toastmaste­rs — Toastmaste­rs meets every Tuesday from 6-7:00 pm in the Conference Room on the first floor of the Sportsplex. Toastmaste­rs is a club that helps members improve their public speaking and leadership skills in a positive atmosphere. Come join us.

◆Kiwanis— Starkville Kiwanis Club will meet at noon Dec. 19 at at The Hilton Garden Inn . Our speaker will be Barbara Coats-Free Little Libraries. Guests are welcome.

◆ Starkville Newcomers and Friends — Starkville Newcomers and Friends Christmas Party will be at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 19 in the Mississipp­i Room of Cadence Bank. Members are requested to bring a finger food and $10 gift or ornament. Prospectiv­e members are welcome.

◆Christmas Wonderland for the Youth — The First Annual Christmas Wonderland for the Youth will be 1:30 - 4 p.m. Dec. 22 at the Starkville Sportsplex. The event will feature a Christmas town on display, toys, refreshmen­ts, live DJ and photograph­er Dexter Jones.

Saturday

◆ Alcoholics Anonymous — Alcoholics Anonymous will now meet every Saturday at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church

◆ Casserole Kitchen — The Episcopal Church of the Resurrecti­on hosts a casserole kitchen every Saturday at Parish hall at 11:30 a.m.

◆ On the Grill at Parker-McGill — Parker-McGill Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will host a weekly “On the Grill” every Saturday. Free food will be provided and visitors can meet the ParkerMcGi­ll staff
