25. Boise State…..(10-3)

Teaira McCowan has already pulled in two Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors and there might be another one on the way.

Facing off against the helpless defenders of Mississippi Valley State, McCowan’s 6-7 frame towered over the Devilettes for a career-high 41 points and No. 5 Mississippi State dominated in a 112-36 victory.

“Teaira could have had 100,” MSU head coach Vic Schaefer said. “She is making some really tough shots. She’s getting better. She’s developing a real soft jumper, a real touch off the glass and smoothing things out.”

The win in front of 8,535 fans in Humphrey Colisum was the second largest margin of victory in school history. The 112 points were tied for the second most in school history and most since 1993.

McCowan put together the 12th 40-point game in Mississippi State history and first since Morgan William’s 41 in last season’s NCAA Tournament. She added five blocks and her ninth double-double of the season and sixth straight with 13 rebounds.

“(All of the accolades) are nice, but I’m going to continue to just play my game and work hard at practice,” McCowan said. “When I play my game, all of the other stuff will come.”

Mississippi State (14-0) put the game away in the second quarter when it manufactured a 24-0 run and held the Devilettes scoreless for nearly 8 minutes. The Bulldogs outscored Valley 30-4 in the quarter for a 59-20 halftime lead.

An 18-0 run early in the third quarter helped cement the game further as the Bulldogs led 88-26 after three quarters of play.

“I spent the entire first quarter trying to get people to play hard,” Schaefer said. “The second and third quarter were more indicative of what I want. We held them to four and six points in the second and third quarter.”

Victoria Vivians was also in double digits for MSU with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Roshunda Johnson scored 14 points, had five assists and no turnovers in the win.

The Bulldogs finished undefeated in non-conference play for the second-straight season and have now won 35-straight regular season games against non-conference competition.

The next phase of the season is now on the way for MSU as it travels to Georgia on Sunday for a 5 p.m. matchup that begins Southeastern Conference play.

“Non-conference is over,” Schaefer said. “Now it’s time to play for keeps.” College Football
