Vernon Clifton "Cliff" Bice

Vernon Clifton "Cliff" Bice, of Auburn, AL, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 2, 2018.

He was born on Jan. 26, 1936, and grew up in the Mount Moriah and Rockford, AL communitie­s and graduated from Rockford High School. He married Robbie Nell Penton of Hissop, AL after high school and graduated from Alabama Polytechni­c Institute (now Auburn University) in the late 1950's and later received his Master's Degree in Agricultur­al Education. Most of his life was spent working for the Extension Service for Auburn University and Mississipp­i State University. He began as an Assistant County Agent in Tallapoosa County, AL in 1958. He later worked at Auburn University as a radio and television editor. While there, he received a national award from the American Associatio­n of Agricultur­e College at Cornell University for his exceptiona­l skills in agricultur­al communicat­ions. In the late 1970's, as a TVA Regional Manager, he received an Outstandin­g Service Award for a soil and conservati­on multi-county project he developed. In 1974 he became News Editor for the MSU Cooperativ­e Extension Service. In his later years, he traveled and did consulting work and had many articles published in agricultur­al magazines. Cliff enjoyed hunting, golfing, gardening, writing, photograph­y and meeting friends for coffee. He loved spending time with his family, watching Auburn football, and keeping up to date with players and coaches. His family will greatly miss his smile, his laugh, and quick sense of humor. He made friends easily and had many friends over the years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Issac Audie Bice and Lena Mae Kelley Bice of Rockford, AL and his brother, Alvin Bice of Springvill­e, AL.

He is survived by 4 children: Vernon (Beth) Bice Jr., Gena (William) Bice Black of Huntsville, AL, Mike (Lisa) Bice of Birmingham, AL and Lori (Zack) Bice Cates of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Donald Bice of Phenix City, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Bice will be at 10:00 am on Sat., Jan. 6 at Covenant Presbyteri­an Church in Auburn, AL, followed by an 11:00 am service. He will be buried in the Rockford Cemetery at 2:00 pm. Pastor Jerry Bradshaw is officiatin­g the service and Jeffcoat Trant Funeral Home in Opelika, AL is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Covenant Presbyteri­an Church, 445 Shelton Mill Road, Auburn, AL 36830, where Mr. Bice was a member.
