The Around Town calendar is a free service offered by the Starkville Daily News. The calendars runs daily as space allows. Announcements should be submitted via e-mail to life@starkvilledailynews.com by 2 p.m. the day prior to publication and be no more than 50 words in length. Religious events will be listed Saturdays on the Faith page. Recurring events will run on Sundays only. Onetime events will run Monday through Friday.

◆ Donations for Homeless Students — Starkville Oktibbeha School District's Project HELP is seeking donations of hygiene supplies, school supplies, school uniforms (new or used in good condition), socks and undergarments for homeless students. ◆ United Blood Services Blood Drive — A blood drive facilitated by United Blood Services will take place on Jan.14 in the parking lot of Trinity Presbyterian Church, 607 Hospital Rd. from 9:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The blood supply is “critical”, so if you can donate, please help those in need. ◆ Rotary — The Starkville Rotary Club meets at 11:45 a.m. at the Starkville Country Club
◆ Respite Care — Emerson family center will host free childcare for families for ages 8 weeks to 5 years while parents attend Doctor's Appointments, Adult Education Classes, Grocery Shopping, Job Interviews etc. Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to noon
◆ Adult Education Classes — Ages 16 and Older, Earn your High School Equivalency, Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. - noon at the J.L. King Center. Tempe O' Nan will be the Instructor at JL King and Laura Thurmond and Jean Ann Foxworth will be the Instructor for Emerson
◆ Work Keys Info Session and Practice — Ages 16 and Older, Key to Finding Gainful Employment on Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Emerson Family School
◆ Afterschool Clubs — Art, Fitness, Life Skills, Homework Help, Literacy clubs will meet Monday- Thursday from 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. at the J.L. King Center
◆ Tutoring — Emerson Family School will host tutoring for students Monday-Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mississippi State Students will be the facilitators.
◆ Computer Classes — Class for basic skills, keyboard/mouse, internet browsing, create email account Jan. 22 & 29 1 P.M.- 3 P.M. at Emerson Family School. Hakran Kim will be the facilitator.
Tuesday
◆ Casserole Kitchen — The First Presbyterian Church a casserole kitchen every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m.
◆ Emerson and J.L. King Events — Emerson Family School and the J.L. King Center is hosting events Monday through Thursday. These events include Adult Education Classes, Work Keys Info Session and Practice, Afterschool Clubs, Tutoring and Computer Classes. Details are listed under “Monday”
◆ Toastmasters — Toastmasters meets every Tuesday from 6-7:00 pm in the Conference Room on the first floor of the Sportsplex. Toastmasters is a club that helps members improve their public speaking and leadership skills in a positive atmosphere. Come join us.
◆Kiwanis— Kiwanis will meet at noon Jan.16 at Hilton Garden Inn. Guest speaker will be Larry Rushing, on his world travels. Guests are welcome.
◆ CWJC Training — Christian Women's Job Corps, Golden Triangle is offering job and life skills training in classes Jan. 23 through April. This free faith-based program provides instruction in basic computer skills, communications, resume' writing, interview preparation, money management, Bible study and much more.
