◆ EMCC Launch Pad — EMMC Launch Pad offers free classes in Adult Education, Workkeys Prep, ACT Prep, Employabil­ity Skills Training, and Basic Skills Training. ◆ CWJC Training — Christian Women's Job Corps, Golden Triangle is offering job and life skills training in classes Jan. 23 through April. This free faith-based program provides instructio­n in basic computer skills, communicat­ions, resume' writing, interview preparatio­n, money management, Bible study and much more. ◆SPL Discussion of “Inferno”— On Jan. 30 at 4 p.m. at the Starkville Public Library, Dr. Nancy Hargrove will lead a discussion of Cantos 6-20 of Dante's “Inferno.” Participan­ts should read those cantos along with the short intros and notes for each in Ciardi's translatio­n published by Signet Classics.

◆West Elementary School Open House— West Elementary School will host Open House on Feb. 6, for families and students who are planning to attend West Elementary School in grades K – 5 for the 2018-19 school year. Open House offers families the opportunit­y to meet teachers, visit classrooms, explore curriculum, and learn about technology.

◆S◆dd◆th Elementary Small Group Tours— Sudduth Elementary School is offering small group tours to parents of children who will be enrolling in kindergart­en for the 201819 school year. Tour dates are scheduled for Feb. 1, 6, and 8 at 10 am. Email nthomas@starkville.k12.ms.us to reserve.

◆ On the Grill at Parker-McGill — Parker-McGill Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will host a weekly “On the Grill” every Saturday. Free food will be provided and visitors can meet the Parker-McGill staff

◆ MSU Veterans’ Center Dedication — On Feb. 3 at 10 a.m., the Flagpole Assembly in front of the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Center for America's Veterans on the MSU campus will be dedicated to Colonel John W. Thames to commemorat­e his years of service to the country, university and community. A reception will follow for friends and family. All are welcome to attend.

◆ Downton Abbey Affair — Starkville-MSU Symphony Asso. presents Downton Abbey Affair fundraiser at 6 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Storehouse at Christian World Missions. Tickets cost $64 in advance and $75 at the door and can be purchased at Book Mart, Symphony board members or starkville­symphony.org.
