Junior college programs attract more Wolverines
MABEN – East Central Community College was a good fit for Josh McMullen.
Now East Webster Wolverines Cole Morgan and Isaac Patterson are set to take the same path.
After the Mississippi junior college system paved the way for McMullen to join a fouryear school at the University of Central Florida, Morgan and Patterson are now bound for Decatur. The pair of Wolverines announced their signing with ECCC on Wednesday morning, while Conner Goodin will also take the JUCO route to Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
Two years ago McMullen appeared at the East Webster auditorium stage and said the school and Christian atmosphere at East Central sold him.
“It's the right place for me,” McMullen told The Starkville Daily News at the time.
After bragging about his experience at ECCC, Morgan said McMullen's influence helped him make the same decision.
“He had talked highly of the place and we decided to go there after all that he said,” Morgan said.
Morgan, who will be a defensive lineman in Decatur, said there won't be any major changes than what he saw with the Wolverines.
“They pretty much run the same defense as we run here,” Morgan said. “There won't be much change there.”
Patterson and Morgan will be roommates at East Central.
The facilities in Decatur, especially the turf football field, is what impressed Patterson the most about ECCC and said “they've probably got the best turf around.”
Patterson was a wide receiver and defensive back at East Webster, but anticipates being a free safety at East Central.
“They watched film on me and liked me at defensive back,” Patterson said.
