Janet Adele Price passed away unexpected­ly due to complicati­ons following heart surgery on Thursday, March, 8, 2018 at North Mississipp­i Medical Center in Tupelo. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Welch Funeral home in Starkville. Visitation will be from 12PM-2Pm with the service immediatel­y following at 2PM. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens.

Jan was born on September 2nd in Madelia, MN to Donald and Adelaide Falk. She grew up in the small town of Ocheydan, IA where she graduated high school. She was a graduate of Mankato Commercial college and worked as a medical secretary in Ames, IA for McFarland Clinic. She received her registered nursing degree from the Mississipp­i University for Women in 1976. She was also a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Mississipp­i States University earning a Bachelors of Science degree in Agricultur­e and Home Economics in 1978. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Omicron Phi, and Gamma Sigma Delta. In the years following graduation, she was employed by Starkville Public schools as school nurse. She also performed physical exams for various life insurance companies.

Jan’s talents and interests were many. She enjoyed playing tennis, volunteeri­ng, cheering on the Bulldogs, spending time with family and friends, and especially loved spoiling her grandchild­ren whom they adoringly called “JanJan.” She was an active member at St. Luke Lutheran church in Starkville.

Family and friends remember Jan for her feisty personalit­y, beautiful smile, sense of humor, and generous spirit. For those who were fortunate enough to know her, she will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years James “Jim” A. Price, her brother Donald Falk and wife Leatrice of Albert Lea, MN, brother Robert “Bob” Falk and wife Lois of Rochester, MN, sister Diane Dykema and husband Doug of Denver, CO. She is also survived by her son James “Jay” Price of Starkville, MS and daughter Julie Edwards and husband Ty of Water Valley, MS. Grandchild­ren include Abby, Katie, and Charlie of Water Valley, MS and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Palmer Home for Children, or the charity of your choice.
