Mrs. Nelda Frances Comer Bailey, age 92, formerly of Columbus, died Saturday, March 17, 2018 at her son's home in Starkville. Funeral arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, 2nd Avenue North location. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Wesley United Methodist Church, followed by the funeral at 11:00 AM with Rev. Sarah Windham, Dr. Prentiss M. Gordon, Sr. and Rev. Edward E. Woodall, Jr. officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Lloyd Cemetery in Calhoun County, MS.

The daughter of the late Archie Harmon and Lillie Burton Comer, Mrs. Bailey was born January 1, 1926 in the Peppertown community of Itawamba County, MS. She attended Wood Jr. College in Mathiston, MS and graduated with a B.A. degree in Education from the University of Southern Mississipp­i. She received a M.A. degree in Education from Mississipp­i University for Women and did post graduate work at Wesley College in Bristol, England, A resident of Columbus since 1971, she was a longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church, as the wife of one of its' ministers in the 1970's Rev. James Leo Bailey. She was also very active in the United Methodist Women on the local as well as the state level. She was employed as a 4th and 5th grade teacher by the Columbus Municipal School District and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was also a member of several garden clubs and active in the March of Dimes. In addition to her parents, she was predecease­d by her four brothers Lansford, Frank C., Thomas S. and Joseph H. Comer and her husband Rev. James L. Bailey.

She is survived by her son Rev. James L. “Jamie “Bailey, Jr. of Starkville, MS.

Pallbearer­s will be Bob Simmons, Dr. Robin Campassi, Mike Comer, Rev. Curtis Bray, Max Cullum, Dr. Billy Watson and Richard Babb. Honorary pallbearer­s will be James Gable, Bobby Ward and Dr. Ben Sanford.

Her son would like to especially thank North MS Home Health Agency nurses Preston Coates and Sherrie Upton and CNA Angela Johnson for their car and love attending to Mrs. Bailey.

He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Horsley; his father,Robert Horsley; step-father, Curtis Cannon; grandfathe­r, Issac Horsley; two brothers, Robert Issac Clayton and DaMonte' Albert Horsley; and three sisters, LaKeshie, Tara and Niki Horsley. Program there. Doris was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Greenwood, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School, Girls Auxiliary, and Vacation Bible School.

After her retirement, Mrs. McGehee moved to Starkville where she became a member of the First Baptist Church and Naomi Sunday School Class, whose members were near and dear to her heart. She was a member of the Newcomers Club and was an avid bridge player in various Starkville bridge clubs. Doris was a volunteer at the Braille Center at the Lutheran Church, where she helped make hymnals for the blind.

Until the last year of her life, one could find her in the yard nurturing her flower garden, even in the heat of Mississipp­i summers. She could identify nearly every flower or shrub in a landscape. If she was not outside gardening, then she would be sitting at her sewing machine creating the most beautiful garments or designing and sewing custom window treatments. One creation that she was especially proud of was designing and sewing Patty's wedding dress which was embellishe­d with over 1,000 hand-stitched seed pearls. Doris' other hobbies included collecting antiques, reading, and cooking, traits which she passed down to her daughters. She also enjoyed cheering on her four grandsons during their years of playing team sports.

Mrs. McGehee is survived by her daughter Patty McGehee Newsom of Starkville, MS, four grandsons-Lee Carlisle of Starkville, MS, Casey Carlisle (& wife, Caelin) of Brandon, MS, Trey Newsom of Nashville, TN, Trevor Newsom of Nashville, TN, great-grandson, Elijiah Carlisle of Starkville, MS, sister Gerry Russum of Thomson, GA, sister Lois Coombes of Haines, OR, brother Robert Boyd of Florence, MS, and a host of nieces and nephews, all whom she dearly loved. Mrs. McGehee was preceded in death by her parents James and Hazel Boyd, daughter Annette McGehee Carlisle, son Larry McGehee, brothers Joe Boyd, Earl Boyd, Charles Boyd, and Mahlon Boyd Kendrick, and sister Miriam Boyd Kendrick Myers.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciati­on to Dr. Steven Brandon and the Family Clinic Staff, Oktibbeha County Hospital Medical Center and EMS Staff, Kindred Hospice, and sitter Pauline Brooks, for the excellent care they provided to Mrs. McGehee.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church Sanctuary on Lampkin Street in Starkville, MS followed by a Celebratio­n of Life Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Clifton Curtis officiatin­g. A private family gathering at graveside will occur at a later date in Greenwood, MS.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 106 East Lampkin Street, Starkville, MS 39759.

Services announced the completion of the purchase and assumption of certain assets and liabilitie­s of HomeFirst, Inc.

According to a statement released from BankFirst, HomeFirst was a mortgage services company founded in 2004 with offices in Oxford and Jackson. Following the acquisitio­n, BankFirst will continue operating HomeFirst's Oxford office as a mortgage production office. BankFirst has also retained all of HomeFirst's employees, including HomeFirst's two executives, Tonquin Stovall and Brian Sistrunk.
