The Around Town calendar is a free service offered by the Starkville Daily News. The calendars runs daily as space allows. Announcements should be submitted via e-mail to life@starkvilledailynews.com by 2 p.m. the day prior to publication and be no more than 50 words in length. Religious events will be listed Saturdays on the Faith page. Recurring events will run on Sundays only. One-time events will run Monday through Friday.

◆ OCTS/HHS Scholarship Applications — The Oktibbeha County Training School/Henderson High School Scholarship applications are due. It is open to high school seniors in the SOCSD planning to further their education beyond high school. ◆Books and Authors — Starkville native Joe Lee will discuss his new novel 40 Days at the Starkville Public Library on Thursday, May 10, at 12:00 p.m., at the Books and Authors event sponsored by Friends of the Library. Refreshments will be available at 11:30 prior to the talk, and a book signing will follow the presentation.

◆Civitan Steak Dinner Fundraiser— The Starkville Civitan Club of Starkville will host a steak dinner fundraiser May 11 and May 12 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. or until sold out at Vowell's Market Place. All proceeds will be used to benefit programs for children with special needs.

◆ Alcoholics Anonymous — Alcoholics Anonymous will now meet every Saturday at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church
◆ Casserole Kitchen — The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection hosts a casserole kitchen every Saturday at Parish hall at 11:30 a.m.
◆ On the Grill at Parker-McGill — Parker-McGill Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will host a weekly “On the Grill” every Saturday. Free food will be provided and visitors can meet the Parker-McGill staff
