Richardson, Mulrooney of SHS stay close to home at next level

Slater Richardson and John Alex Mulrooney were known for their distance running for the Starkville High School Yellowjack­ets in track.

When it came time to deciding where they were going to college, they chose to stay close to home.

Richardson didn’t even have to leave home as he signed with Mississipp­i State on Thursday morning, while Mulrooney will take his talents just down the road to Meridian Community College.

SHS cross country coach Meggan Franks said keeping Richardson and Mulrooney within the boundary of Mississipp­i is very important and is proud of the decisions they made.

“They are team leaders,” Franks said. “They are fantastic teammates.

Carter brought her home with a two-out single to deep short, bringing the tying run to the plate, but a pop up to second snuffed out the comeback.
