MSU women's golfers recognized
Strong showings in the classroom garnered a quartet of Mississippi State golfers All-American Scholar accolades from the Women's Golf Coaches Association on Tuesday.
Junior Katie Holt was selected an All-American Scholar for the second-straight year, while freshman Blair Stockett and sophomores Ela Grimwood and Clara Moyano claimed the honor for the first time.
“We are extremely proud of Katie, Blair, Ela and Clara,” MSU head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “They are as dedicated to succeeding in the classroom as much as they are on the golf course. Being named a WGCA All-American Scholar is a prestigious honor, and it is a testament to their devotion as student-athletes.”
The four were part of a total of 1,011 women's college golfers to land the honor. The criteria for being selected a WGCA AllAmerican Scholar is some of the most stringent in all of college athletics, with the minimum cumulative GPA being a 3.50.
Holt, an SEC Spring Honor Roll selection, paced MSU in 2017-18, playing in eight events and tallying a team-low 75.2 scoring average that tied for 12th in MSU season annals. She posted two top 15 finishes, including a season-best eighth-place showing at the State-hosted Magnolia Invitational.
Stockett played solid golf to wrap her freshman season, playing in six tournaments, earning Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week laurels and posting three Top 25 finishes.
Grimwood, who was picked to the SEC Spring Honor Roll, played in seven tournaments and posted her best finish with a tie for 28th at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. Moyano participated in six events and notched a 21st place finish at MSU's Magnolia Invite.
