EMCC to play Garden City CC

-

The 2018 NJCAA Football National Championship game matchup is set to feature the top two teams in the nation – No. 1 East Mississippi and No. 2 Garden City (KS) following the final regular season poll announced on Monday afternoon.

This year's title bout will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29 at Carnie Smith Stadium on the campus of Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS, the first year of a three-year agreement with the Crawford County Convention & Visitors Bureau. The NJCAA recently announced its latest partnership with CBS Sports to have this year's national championship televised live on the CBS Sports Network.

The four-time and defending national champions, East Mississippi will enter the championship undefeated at 110. The Lions opened up the season as the preseason No. 1 team in the nation and held the top spot through all 11 regular season polls. Led by head coach Buddy Stephens who eclipsed the 100-career win mark this season, the Lions have allowed just 11.4 points per contest this year, the best mark in the NJCAA.

No. 2 Garden City will make the six-hour trek across Kansas with an unblemished record of 10-0 after holding off No. 14 Butler 22-10 on Saturday. The Broncbusters boast the top offensive rushing attack in the nation with 307.6 yards per contest and 37 touchdowns on the ground. Garden City, the 2016 national champion is led by head coach Jeff Sims. Sims was recently selected as the next head coach for Missouri Southern where his tenure will begin following the Broncbusters' national title game.
