Now she looks at other Mississipp­ians such as Oprah Winfrey, who left the state and were able to prosper despite the struggles any of them faced.

“My role models were anyone who was actually able to have a voice and able to be strong enough to utilize that voice to do something very positive,” Haddix stated.

Haddix believes women are the true leaders of the household.

“Most of the time women are the ones who really carry the load of the house or the responsibi­lities even though men are our partners and support,” Haddix said.

Haddix then said she believes she has the ability to instill confidence in women.

“Being an African-american role model and a female in this role I hope that women who didn’t have a voice can realize now they do have a voice and will feel more comfortabl­e speaking up and participat­ing,” Haddix said.

The Oktibbeha County NAACP has more members than ever before and Haddix credits that to the relatable women in leadership roles.
