The Around Town calendar is a free service offered by the Starkville Daily News. The calendars runs daily as space allows. Announceme­nts should be submitted via e-mail to life@starkville­dailynews.com by 2 p.m. the day prior to publicatio­n and be no more than 50 words in length. Religious events will be listed Saturdays on the Faith page. Recurring events will run on Sundays only. One-time events will run Monday through Friday.

◆ EMCC Launch Pad — EMCC Launch Pad offers free classes in Adult Education, Workkeys Prep, ACT Prep, Employabil­ity Skills Training, and Basic Skills Training. ◆ The Starkville Public Library Friends of the Library monthly book sale will be held Monday, August 5 from Noon6:00 pm. The Friends is pleased to announce the usual assortment of fiction and nonfiction books in both hard cover and paperback at prices ranging from 50 cents to $3. This month's sale also features a large collection of art and dance books as well as a number of historical, political and war-related books.

◆ Emerson Free Childbirth Classes— The Emerson Family Center offers free childbirth classes each Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in February, June, and October. ◆ OCH Wellness Connection to Offer Tai Chi Classes - The Wellness Connection at OCH Regional Medical Center will offer an eight-week Tai Chi course on Tuesdays beginning August 6 from 5:15 – 6:30 p.m. A form of moving meditation, Tai Chi emphasizes slow, gentle movements with deep breathing and meditation to relax the body and quiet the mind. The class will be led by Dr. Armando de la Cruz and will involve a variety of styles to help improve physical and mental well-being. The fee for the class is $40 for Wellness Connection members and $50 for nonmembers. Pre-registrati­on is required. Call 323-WELL (9355) to reserve your spot.

◆ On the Grill at Parkermcgi­ll — Parker-mcgill Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will host a weekly “On the Grill” every Saturday. Free food will be provided and visitors can meet the Parkermcgi­ll staff.

◆ 9th Annual Dog Paddle August 10 - Bring your dogs to swim at the Moncrief Park Pool from 9 AM - Noon. This fun pool party for dogs is a fundraiser for the Oktibbeha County Humane Society (OCHS). Proceeds benefit the OCHS Second Chance Fund. $30 registrati­on fee includes admission for 1 dog, 1 t-shirt and accompanyi­ng human(s) get in free. Additional dogs $10 each. Additional t-shirts $15. ◆ Pryormorro­w PC, Architects, Engineers, Interior Design is hosting a school supply drive to benefit the TK Martin Center's Project IMPACT, a special needs preschool program that services children throughout the region. Supplies needed include: playdough, side walk chalk, copy paper, scotch tape, paper clips, staples, batteries, hand sanitizer, paper towels, Lysol, disinfecta­nt wipes, baby wipes, tissues, and gift cards.
