MSU'S Cohen gives an update to Rotarians
Time off from the playing field doesn't mean that Mississippi State's Director of Athletics John Cohen is just sitting around doing nothing.
For starters, the former Bulldog player and baseball coach has taken this time to start on a goatee. He also has channeled the ultimate dad move of perfecting the turf at his house.
“My lawn looks outstanding right now,” Cohen joked.
All jokes aside, Cohen is still a very busy man. Maybe now more than ever.
MSU, as well as the rest of the country, is in a state of flux at the moment as live sports have come to a halt in the middle of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Cohen and the Bulldogs are without all spring sports at the moment and a massive revenue loss from the city of Starkville is currently here after the NCAA women's tournament was canceled and every home Southeastern Conference baseball weekend as well as Super Bulldog Weekend as the biggest money maker of the spring was nixed.
Still, Cohen took the time on Monday to speak to the Starkville Rotary Club via Zoom to tell them how much he's enjoyed seeing the community rally together.
“I can't say enough about this great community that we have in Starkville,” Cohen told the Rotarians. “Whenever something like this happens, this community just steps forward and that's tremendous.”
Cohen recognized accomplishments from Tyson Carter as the SEC'S Sixth Man of the Year as well as Reggie Perry's big season and declaration to enter the National Basketball Association Draft. He also brought up the year of the women's basketball team led by Rickea Jackson and Jessika Carter, the seasons that were developing for softball Fa Leilua and Mia Davidson, the baseball team
