Jackson, Perry nominated for Athlete of Year

-

Rickea Jackson and Reggie Perry made their impact on the basketball court for the Mississippi State basketball teams last season.

The play of the two studentathletes have been recognized as they have been nominated for the 2019-20 Roy F. Kramer Athletes of the Year. The Southeastern Conference made the announcement on Monday.

Each institution nominated one male and one female student-athlete for the honor, which was first presented in 1976 for men and 1984 for women. The award was renamed in 2004 to honor former SEC Commissioner Roy F. Kramer, who served in that capacity from 1990-2002.

Perry averaged a double-double of 17.4 points and 10.1 rebounds last season for the Bulldogs, who finished with a 2011 record. He has entered his name in the National

Basketball Association Draft.

Jackson averaged 15.1 points per game to help the MSU women to a 25-6 mark.

The male and female award winners will be announced on Wednesday.

Mississippi State will host Utah State in football on September 14, 2024.

It will be the first meeting between the Bulldogs and Aggies on the gridiron.

The news was first released by

Utah State Athletic Director John Hartwell on Monday and later confirmed by MSU. The game time will be announced at a later date.

Even though this will be the first visit or the Aggies to Starkville, they are not unfamiliar with SEC territory. They traveled to LSU last season, to Tennessee in 2014, to Auburn in 2011, to Arkansas in 2006, to Georgia in 1999, to Alabama twice with the most recent in 2005 and to Kentucky three times.

Utah State has been to eight bowl games in the last nine years.
