Where Is God?

- GWEN YARBER

Where is God? If God is everywhere – and the Bible (Psalm 139:7) tells us there is no place we can go from His Presence – then, where is He? We are told God is Spirit (John 4:24). John also tells us (3:8) the Holy Spirit is like the wind. No one knows the origin or destination of the wind, but everyone knows it is there.

Several years ago, I asked God to let me see Him – in everything; and it has been amazing how many things each day can remind me of Him. In fact, I wrote my first column in February 2007 sharing those revelations which I would like to review with the hope that you too can see God in the things you do today.

When you woke this morning, did you dread the day? Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.” After getting out of bed, you prepared and ate breakfast. If you cooked an egg, you saw three parts – shell, white, and yoke, that could remind you of the Trinity – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. After breakfast, you washed the dishes. Remember we have been “washed with the washing of the water of the Word (Ephesians 5:26). We have been washed in the blood of Jesus. You cleaned the spills or spatters on the stove, otherwise there would be greasy build-up. That reminds us we do not want to leave any “spatter” of unconfessed sin to build up and interrupt our fellowship with God.

Following breakfast, you prepared yourself for the day. You brushed your teeth, leaving you with a clean mouth. Remember it is not what enters the mouth that defiles, but what comes out (Matthew 15:11). It is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34). As you brush your teeth, pray that “the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart will be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer!” (Psalm 19:14)

As wash your face to freshen it, remember that God’s mercies and compassions are fresh every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). We put on make-up to cover blemishes – the blood of Jesus covers our spiritual blemishes (our sins). As you apply the foundation, thank Jesus for being our true foundation – “For other foundation no man can lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:11). As you put mascara on your eyes, thank God that as His child you are the apple of His eye (Psalm 17:8). When applying lipstick, pray that your lips will speak only truth. Watch the tongue since it is a restless evil…speaking blessing and cursing.

While combing your hair remember God knows the exact number of hairs on your head. As you make your bed, be thankful you have a place to sleep and that God never slumbers or sleeps. He is always awake (Psalm 121:3).

We have not even left home and yet there have been so many ways we have seen God. Will you join me in asking God to continue revealing Himself in everything? I think we will be amazed!
