To move forward
Even on the eve of the Big Ten and Pac-12 deciding to cancel the fall season for 2020, the rest of the college football world did not seem ready to follow its lead.
Less than a week ago, the Southeastern Conference announced initial management requirements to be able to play fall sports.
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey is committed to see if the plan his league has developed will work.
“I look forward to learning more about the factors that led the Big Ten and
Pac-12 leadership to take these actions (Tuesday),” Sankey said in a statement. “I remain comfortable with the thorough and deliberate approach that the SEC and our 14 members are taking to support a healthy environment for our student-athletes.
“We will continue to further refine our policies and protocols for a safe return to sports as we monitor developments around COVID-19 in a continued effort to support, educate and care for our student-athletes every day.”
Several players, including
Mississippi State running back Kylin Hill, took to social media on Monday afternoon to make a case to keep playing when rumors started to circulate about what the Big Ten and Pac-12 were planning to do.
Just as he was when Hill made the stance on Twitter concerning the state flag of Mississippi, MSU Athletic Director John Cohen was proud once again of Hill and all of the student-athletes under his watch.
“Love the passion, perseverance and resilience shown by all of our student-athletes, especially during these ever-changing circumstances,” Cohen posted on Twitter Monday. “We will continue fully supporting our student-athletes, coaches and staff, while keeping their health and safety our highest priority.”
