Two Starkville natives join Supreme Court staff
Two Starkville natives recently joined the staff of the Mississippi Supreme Court.
Cole Wood became a judicial law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Robert P. Chamberlin in August. Wood now lives in Flowood.
Walker B. Lacey joined the staff of Supreme Court Justice Josiah D. Coleman in late June. Lacey now lives in Jackson.
Wood earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, summa cum laude, from Mississippi State University in 2017. He earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law in May. He was Editor-in-chief of the Mississippi Sports Law Review, President of the student chapter of the Federalist Society, Director of Alumni Relations for the Student Bar Association, and a member of the Dean’s Leadership Council
and the Christian Legal Society.
Wood previously served as a Supreme Court intern, working for Justice Dawn Beam for two months in 2018. He recently worked as a law clerk for the Bank of Okolona. He was a student assistant in the MSU Office of the General Counsel for three years. He served in numerous other externships and internships, including in the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Mississippi and in the Columbus office of Mitchell, Mcnutt & Sams, P.A. He served as a Junior Fellow at the Library of Congress.
Lacey previously worked for three months as a summer law clerk for Justice Coleman. He most recently served for almost a year as a legal extern for Court of Appeals Judge Anthony N. Lawrence III. He was admitted to the limited practice of law with the Mississippi College School of Law Adoption Legal Clinic, where he helped with adoptions for more than 10 families.
Lacey earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in foreign language and international business from Mississippi College in 2014. He speaks Spanish and German. He earned a law degree from Mississippi College School of Law in May. He was president of the MCSOL Business Law Society.
