Win helps spirits at Hebron Christian

- By DANNY P. SMITH

There is a much better feeling going into this game week than what the Hebron Christian Eagles have experienced this football season.

After the 52-14 win at home over Kemper County last Friday, it was vey encouraging for the Eagles.

“They needed that bad,” Hebron Christian coach David Foster said. “I think it helped their spirits out and it helped mine out too. We definitely weren’t perfect, but we played better than we had been playing.”

Foster said there was a different approach taken in practice last week that may have led to some of the success.

Even with that, Foster believes the players just executed better.

“I told them (Monday) that I don’t know if it’s something we did or it just come out of you,” Foster said. “I knew they had it in them. They played a lot different than they had been playing. Of course being ahead on the scoreboard is a big deal, but we were tied 14-14 at half and we scored a bunch of points in the third quarter and blew it up. I’m hoping it travels on to this coming week.”

The Eagles are faced with another long road trip into Arkansas when they meet West Memphis (Arkansas) Christian.

Carroll Academy defeated West Memphis 48-0 recently so Foster sees the matchup as a good one for Hebron.

“They are not playing real well right now,” Foster said of West Memphis. “I’m not saying they are not a good team. They like to pass the ball a lot and that has given us trouble in the past, but Kemper did too and we played their pass game pretty well. We just have to see. They are not a big powerhouse. They used to be, but they are down in numbers right now.”

Foster said one of his players is injured and may only get to travel with 12 or 13 players this week.
