Nine-twentynine announces special drinks for Christmas

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and pretty soon the drinks at Nine-twentynine will begin to taste like them too.

While other coffee shops may have a set menu, Nine-twentynine the past two years has put out special themed drinks for Halloween and Christmas.

Taggert King, a manager at Nine-twentynine, said they look to create different drinks in order to draw in customers. The seasonal drinks are not listed online but can be found in store.

“People love coming in and trying something new,” King said. “Especially with Christmas time, people are usually bringing in their families. It is exciting for people to have a drink here that they can not get anywhere else.”

Nogittome and a Ginger and Rosemary cappuccino are the current planned special drinks they will begin to sell hopefully on December 4. Customers can add pumpkin spice or caramel syrup to any drink as well.

Their first step is to determine which flavor they want to focus on. From there, they look at what they call “a flavor Bible,” which shows which flavors compliment each other. In previous years they have sold the Nogittome, which is eggnog, peppermint syrup and poured over ice with cold brew.

“It is just a classic winter time flavor,” King said.

In this flavor Bible, they discovered that ginger and rosemary were complementary to each other. Coincidentally Jonette Shurden, the owner of Ninetwentynine, has a rosemary plant at her home. They tried it and discovered it did in fact work well together.

“It is about finding flavors and getting the right balance, making the syrup with the appropriate strength and everything,” King said.

King said Nine-twentynine wanted to create something unique in a drink.

“We wanted to do something different, so someone can have a Nine-twentynine centric experience coming in for that holiday drink,” King said. “The official release will be on Friday when we put it on social media and everything.”
