Auburn’s Nix shows desire to win

- By DANNY P. SMITH

There is no questioning the desire for success of Auburn sophomore quarterback Bo Nix.

Anyone who has any doubts can just look to the play Nix made against the Texas A&M Aggies last Saturday

as an example.

Nix scored a 5-yard touchdown after being chased back as far as the 20-yard line by the Aggies.

By using his mobility, Nix was able to avoid the sack and give the Tigers a lead in the first half of the game.

“Instinctively, I tried to avoid a sack and got out in the middle in the open and saw a bunch of my guys ready to go block,” Nix said of the play. “They did a great job of leading the way for me and I found the end zone.”

Even though the Tigers lost a 31-20 decision, Nix showed something to his head coach Gus Malzahn.

Malzahn saw the “competitive”

nature come out of Nix in that moment.

“I thought our quarterback showed a lot of guts,” Malzahn said. “He played hard. He made some plays out of nothing. I thought he did some very good things.”

Nix completed 15 of 23 pass attempts against Texas A&M for 144 yards and added 49 rushing yards on 11 carries. He has six rushing scores this season and 13 in his career.

Going into tonight’s game against Mississippi State, Nix is just 2 yards off of passing for 2,000 yards for the season. He has completed 174 passes for 1,998 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Tank Bigsby is the leading rusher for Auburn with 112 carries for 642 yards and five touchdowns, while Seth Williams has caught 39 passes for 631 yards and three scores.

The Tigers (5-4) are looking to get back in the win column against the Bulldogs after losing back-to-back games against in-state rival Alabama and Texas A&M.
